My husband and I wanted to write our speeches individually so that we could both be surprised by each others efforts. We thought it would be a good idea to have a chat together first and figure out who would cover what, in each of our speeches. That way we could make sure that we didn’t repeat each others stories.

This is why discussing the wedding speech ideas with your other half is wold be a good idea.

Then we made a small index card on which we wrote all our keywords to help us remember the next paragraph of the speech. For example if you have a sentence that goes along the lines of; “I can remember when Richard, Sue and I went on vacation to Ireland and…All you have to do is put the word Ireland on the index card. That one word will help you remember the whole story.

After you have written down your keywords, practice the speech another 2-3 times in front of the mirror or your friend. On the wedding day it should be enough to practice once in the morning with the index card and you should be good to go.

Do not read straight from the card. Remember these are meant to be your own heart-felt words, not a script to be read from. Just try to get the general sentiment across.
